Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

The Zimbabwean side of the falls: rainforest viewpoints along the length of the curtain, and the Victoria Falls Bridge across the gorge.

Overview

About Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Victoria Falls is shared between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and the two sides are genuinely different visits rather than alternatives. The Zimbabwean side faces the falls along their length, so a walk through the rainforest reserve gives you view after view of the curtain of water from the front, with the spray feeding the forest around the path.

The town of Victoria Falls sits within walking distance of the reserve entrance, which makes a Zimbabwe-side visit easy to combine with the Victoria Falls Bridge, the gorge below it and onward travel towards Hwange.

The Zimbabwean viewpoints are reached from the town of Victoria Falls in Matabeleland North, on the southern bank of the Zambezi, across the gorge from Livingstone in Zambia.

Why visit

  • Front-facing views along most of the width of the falls
  • A rainforest walk fed by the spray, with a sequence of distinct viewpoints
  • The Victoria Falls Bridge and the gorge immediately downstream

Signature experiences

  • Guided rainforest sightseeing on the Zimbabwean side
  • Victoria Falls Bridge and gorge viewing
  • Zambezi river experiences above the falls
  • Onward travel towards Hwange and Matobo

Best suited for

  • Travellers who want the front-on view of the falls
  • Visitors combining both sides of Victoria Falls

Travel information

Practical notes before you go

Zambia side or Zimbabwe side
The Zambian side brings you closest to the water at the gorge edge; the Zimbabwean side gives the broad front-on view along the curtain. Many travellers do both, and we will explain honestly what each side offers for your dates.
Crossing the border
Visiting the Zimbabwean side from Livingstone means an international border crossing. Requirements depend on your nationality and change from time to time, so we direct you to current official guidance while planning rather than publishing rules here.
Entry requirements and fees
Park entry arrangements and traveller documentation are confirmed with you in writing during planning, so the figures you receive are the current ones.
